On 28th February 2025, in a landmark initiative marking the culmination of ULCCS’s year-long centenary celebrations, the ULCCS Centenary LP School, Muttungal, was inaugurated, giving new life to the 131-year-old institution that was earlier slated for closure. The school aims to provide international-standard education to children of workers from ULCCS and the coastal community, blending academics with a rich cultural and co-curricular experience.
The inauguration celebrated the launch of the school as a “Creative Learning School,” reflecting a holistic education model in which learning and activities are interwoven to nurture all-round development. Students, parents, and community members gathered for the opening, participating in the lighting of the first letters-shaped “Aksharadheepam” as a symbol of literacy and new beginnings. Children released balloons and performed musical pieces, including a rendition by child singer Sarang Rajeev set to the composition of Guru Vagbhatananda.
The ceremony was graced by distinguished personalities including renowned writer M. Mukundan, former MLA A. Pradeep Kumar who oversaw the school’s revival, musician Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri, Padma Shri awardee Meenakshi Amma, Block Panchayat President K. P. Girija, Education Deputy Director Manoj Kumar C, actor Anu Sithara, poet Veeran Kutty, and singers V. T. Murali and Ramesh Vishnu. Parents and teachers also participated in lighting lamps, creating a sense of collective celebration and community ownership.
The inauguration meeting, chaired by P. P. Chandrashekharan Master, included welcome speeches by ULCCS Chairman Rameshan Paleri and MD S. Shaju, who expressed gratitude to the engineers, architects, designers, and execution teams responsible for the construction of the new school building. Students who had excelled in state-level school arts, sports, and science-mathematics competitions were felicitated. The event concluded with various student performances and a stage show by Oscar Manoj, highlighting the talents nurtured within the school.
The new school building was designed following modern, global educational standards, with facilities to support reading, science experiments, mathematics, performing arts, music, dance, chess, martial arts (Kalari), gardening, and nature-based learning. ULCCS plans to continue upgrading the school and implement its “Creative Learning” curriculum in the coming years to ensure students’ holistic development.
By taking over and revitalizing this historic school, ULCCS has not only preserved an educational legacy but also created a model institution that harmoniously blends tradition, innovation, and comprehensive learning for future generations.
